Dear Joel,

I hope this letter finds you well. I know that you’re feeling anxious about your upcoming exams, and I want you to know that I’m here to support you. Please remember that it’s completely normal to feel nervous before an examination. It’s a natural response to a challenging situation. However, I want to share some tips that have helped me and many others manage examination jitters.

First, prepare thoroughly: Make a study plan and stick to it. The more prepared you are, the less likely you’ll feel overwhelmed. Reaching out for help to your school mates who are better in some areas of a given subject also helps to speed up learning.

Secondly, you need to practice relaxation techniques and get enough sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep before the exam to help improve focus and concentration. I remember I almost failed a subject last term because I stayed awake all night trying to read the previous subject. You must also take regular breaks to help reduce stress and improve focus.

Thirdly, Stay positive: Encourage positive self-talk and remind yourself of your past successes. You were once very sound while I was still with you, and sometimes I wonder if at any point you had changed the quality of the friends you keep – but that’s a discussion for another. You would also need to reframe your thinking. View the exam as an opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills, rather than a source of fear.

Remember, it’s important to focus on the present moment and what you can control. Instead of worrying about the outcome, focus on your preparation and the steps you’re taking to succeed. You’ve got this! You’re capable and prepared. Go out there and show yourself what you’re capable of.

If you ever need to talk or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here for you.

Best regards,
John.
