UNIJOS Students Forum notice on suspension of GST payment

The Faculty Presidents’ Forum of the University of Jos, Plateau State, has advised UNIJOS students to temporarily suspend payment of the General Studies (GST) charges for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This directive follows a meeting convened by the Forum with university authorities to address growing concerns raised by students regarding the payments. In a statement released to the student body, the Forum explained that the pause is a precautionary measure while discussions are ongoing.

“In view of the ongoing engagements and pending a conclusive outcome, all students are hereby advised to temporarily pause further GST payments until an official position is communicated,” the statement read.

The Forum assured students that the decision is aimed at protecting them from uncertainty while stakeholders work toward a resolution. Further updates are expected once the discussions are finalized.

The statement was jointly signed by the Forum’s leadership, including Chairman Chris Nson Jr. (Law), Secretary Godiah Israel Ibrahim (Natural Sciences), and PRO Dongjeep Martin’s Humphrey (Education), along with other faculty representatives.

Students are urged to remain calm and await further communication from the authorities.
