The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026 as public holidays to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan fast. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the holy month.
In a statement issued by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, Muslims were encouraged to continue practicing the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice learned during Ramadan.
The minister also urged all Nigerians to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and national progress, while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to the less privileged.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence across the country.
